Privacy Statement

This Privacy Statement applies to your use of the VOISS (Virtual Reality Opportunities to Implement Social Skills), any services, and the VOISS mobile application (collectively, the ”VOISS”). By accessing the VOISS, you agree to this Privacy Statement; if you do not agree, please discontinue use of the VOISS.

The VOISS application is developed and supported by The University of Kansas, Special Education Department, and the Center for Research on Learning.  Digital Buckeye is a vendor for The University of Kansas and provides technical development and technical support services.

This Privacy Statement may change over time. If we make minor changes, which do not materially change your rights, we will post the modified version on our website. For any changes that materially change your rights, we will notify you by posting a new Privacy Statement. Use of the VOISS after a modification is posted, will mean you have agreed to Privacy Statement when made effective.

Data Collection

In order to use VOISS, we collect your email. We will store, collect, use and share your email in compliance with applicable law, including without limitation Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”) at 20 U.S.C. § 1232g (34 CFR Part 99), Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”), 15 U.S.C. § 6501-6506; Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (“PPRA”) 20 U.S.C. § 1232h. When you use the VOISS, we also log and store your IP address and technical information about your visit (“cookies”); when you use the VOISS we collect, store and use the data you upload or post, analytical information about your device, such as IP address, OS version, and clickstream, or similar. We will collect, store, use, and maintain your data, including personal data, for educational and research purposes only, except where otherwise required by law; provided, however, we may use and share your non-personal, de-identified or aggregated data in a manner consistent with our educational and research purposes, to include without limitation, reports, publications, and activities to improve the website’s information, resources and services or conduct of research as approved by our institutional review board.

Children

Minors under 13 are not permitted to use the VOISS without express parental/legal guardian consent and parent/legal guardian agreement to be bound by this Privacy Statement.

Storage and Data Security

We maintain your data on secure servers and follow industry standard procedure for log files for accessing accounts.  The information collected by log files include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and clickstream; this information is not linked to personally-identifiable data. Access to your data will be password protected and restricted to only those individuals with login access, which is controlled by you, the user. Our website automatically generates a CSRF “token” for each active user session. This token is used to verify that the authenticated user is the user actually making the requests.

De-Activating Your Account or Deleting Your Personal Data

You may choose to deactivate your account. You can request deactivation and deletion of personal data by contacting us through email at seanj@ku.edu.

GDPR: Information for European Economic Area (EEA) Users

Users for whom we collect, maintain, or process their personal data are directed to review the supplementary Privacy Notice, provided here in accordance with European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) available at this link: https://policy.ku.edu/general-counsel/data-protection-privacy-notice. For purposes of GDPR, we rely on your consent as a lawful basis for collecting and processing personal data to provide you the requested access to the VOISS, services, and app features; to enable the service to function as expected; to communicate with you in response to customer service inquiries; and based on our legitimate interests in providing you the service described on the VOISS website.
